E-book reader part1

Hi, this is first post I upload about IT product.

This is about e-book reader. Hoping this post will help you whether should buy reader or not, Here’s my opinion on e-book reader.

These days many people are concerned with e-book. And there are many e-book reader product like 'KINDLE of amazon' or in Korea, 'CREMA of EPUB' and 'SAM of KYOBO'. You can also use tablet PC, 'Apple's Ipad', 'Samsung's Galaxy tab', 'LG Optimus pad', 'HUAWEI MediaPad' or 'MS Surface' ect. There are so many devices to read e-book. Even, we can also use our smart phone. But because of too small display to read book, nobody will recommend that idea. It is reasonable to consider buying tablet PC or reader if you are willing to read e-book.

 

So, our work should be done before buying is to take a long hard look at differences between e-book reader and tablet PC. One thing most important difference is that, in e-book reader, we can't do other things except reading books. It is just for reading. But, as you know in tablet PC, there are so many things we can do from creating documents to taking pictures, listening to musics, and surfing the internet. And if you want, you can also enjoy game!! You can do whatever you want by installing appropriate application. Reading books is just one of options on tablet PC.

 

It seems just one ability, reading books, gives critical disadvantage to e-book reader. Even for that reason, it looks like e-book reader goes against the times. Until now, a lot of electric devices have disappeared and been absorbed to smart phone or tablet. We once used each of electric dictionary, mp3 player, voice recorder, personal media player(PMP) and Digital camera. But, who buys that devices now a days? There's no person buying iPod rather than iPhone or iPad. All the devices are in our tablet and smart phone.

 

However, cutting to the chase, I think e-book reader will exist independently also in future, and will be developed, be popular more and more. E-book reader is not going against the time. I recommend people who want to use e-book contents buying e-book reader.

 

Against some examples of disappeared devices, you can say that "There are people who still buy digital camera even though they can take pictures using their phone!". Yes. We have seen many people who like taking picture buy DSLR. As you have seen, digital camera have been developed and sold steadily. And that's a point we should consider. E-book reader and tablet PC have similar relationship with DSLR and smart phone. To get hint of e-book reader discussion, we should analyze why digital camera still exist unlike other devices. What is difference between them?

The answer is in the amount of time spent and in degree we concentrate on.

 

Let's imagine situation when taking photos. To get well taken photographs, photographer senses subtle change of lights, adjusts composition of scene and puts meanings even when taking one photo. That process requires high concentration, often takes a long time. Whether taking for hobby or for a work, that is not a problem. When taking pictures you really like to take, it is not surprising that you focus on your working. In contrast, electric dictionary and voice recorder don't need high concentration and don't takes time a lot. Meaning we don’t need ‘high focus’ when searching for ‘focus’ on dictionary. Also, there’s no other thing to care about when recording someone’s voice. Actually we rarely use them. It is enough to use them installed in smart phone.

 

But photos are in different situation. Here’s a example of problem for ‘James’ who want to take the pictures of scenes he desire. To get scene, James tries to use smart phone camera application. Sensing subtle change of lights and adjusting composition of scene, James concentrates on taking picture. But he got a message from his friend delivering ‘Hey James, let’s meet together next friday!’ Further, game application sent pop-up alarm. He tried to concentrate again. Because that is scene James want to remember. However, Facebook seems happy of ‘like’ button and twitter forgot to shut up. Habit of surfing internet makes James press browser icon. Surfing the Internet is always funny. At the end after long time, James remember he was trying to take picture. Usually this event don’t happen simultaneously like James. But, the important thing is that, in our cell phone, there are so many things that can disturb our concentration. And those distraction provide much of fun enough to forget original purpose. We can easily recall experiences of playing game, doing SNS and shopping when reading articles.

 

Tablet can not be a exception. It is not different with just big display smart phone. And reading is work we concentrate on long time. Works that need high concentration don’t suit device that has all functions. More concentration it needs, more possibility to be affected it is. Although previous example of taking picture is drastic one, it can show you enough reason of ‘why concentrating working don't suit smart device.’ It is similar reason with ‘why many of last grade high school student change their smart phone to feature phone and bring PMP’. Device that has a lot of ability is good for distraction. It is not just for high performance but also for concentration when people buy their own camera who likes taking picture.

 

For these reason, I recommend you to buy reader. Rather, reading is more concentrating work than taking picture. More suitable for distraction. Moreover as we can get much of informations easily, it seems we don’t care of one information. We distribute our concentration to a lot of informations. As the time goes on, we can find ourselves familiar with fast, little concentrative informations. Facebook and Instagram is full of short informations that we can see within 1 minute. Youtube serve part of video program not full of it. We can watch funniest parts of TV show on Youtube. However reading is not a short thing. In situations of growing short contents, it is really hard to keep reading of long piece writing. If short-time contents kindly send us alarm, with easy access of them, nobody cannot be disturbed.

 

After all, just one ability of reading books is advantage for e-book reader. I’m sure that you can see yourself reading more often if you use e-book reader than tablet. It is wise decision to take reader for person who likes books and concerns e-book contents.
